United Face Huge Game In Durham Trophy

by Jeff King

Although it's not a league game, United face one of their toughest opponents from the Wearside League today in Darlington Town. The game is in the Durham FA Trophy at The Riverside. Kick-off for a much anticipated game is at 1:30pm.

Darlington are making a great run in the league Championship race and currently sit second to United only on goal difference in the division. However, Town have played two games less than United for their 40 points.

They have a very solid squad mixed with experience and youth and players to watch out for are midfielder Ryu Williamson who is their top scorer with 11 goals and dangerous striker Axel Tucker who has 8 goals.

On the form front 21-year-old defender Joe Betteridge leads the way with three Man of the Match awards. Town who have only lost twice in the league all season have a very balanced squad that will test Chester all the way as the two sides come together for the first time this season.

United had a real boost to their training schedule yesterday when ex-Celtic star and veteran of 80 internationals for Czechoslovakia and Slovakia Lubo Moravcik visited United's training session. The former professional is a good friend of Chester Head Coach Didier Agathe.

Moravcik who netted 13 times in those internationals played for Celtic from 1998 - 2002 making 94 appearances and scoring 29 goals. He is rated as one of the very best midfield players to don the famous Green and White Hoops playing alongside Agathe during his time in Glasgow.

Moravcik was able to view first-hand what the Academy set-up is like at Park View for the United players and commented that he felt it was one of the best academy programmes he'd seen and was impressed with the ability of the players he saw.
