Durham County FA Under-18s Saturday League - Saturday 7th September 2024
Morpeth Town 3 v 3 Chester-le-Street United
It was a second successive point for the young U-18’s away to Morpeth Town last Saturday. Overall the lads will be happy with the point as United probably didn’t do enough to get anything more from the game.
In what was a scrappy affair it was the home side who went two up in the first twenty minutes. Ethan Bell got United back in the game with a tidy finish from 10 yards before getting his fourth goal in two games just on the stroke of half time with a great solo goal.
Great movement and awareness saw Bell turn and drive forward with the ball 30 yards from goal as he fended off three players before calmly side footing into the bottom corner to take Chester level going into the break.
The second half was more of the same with the Chester boys struggling to get any kind of grip on the game and were second best in a lot of areas.
With a short bench and a number of key players missing the lads did well to stay in the game before Morpeth took the lead midway through the second half. A long ball over the top allowed the Town striker race away to finish one v one past the advancing Lambert.
Some good play on the edge of the box drew a foul and with five minutes remaining Carter Bell stepped up and put the ball into the roof of the net from 25 yards with fantastic precision to grab a point on the road for United.
